Guest Tea Preparation

For the guest tea my group and I decided that our theme was going to be summer! For our menu we pondered and came up with ham and cheese sandwiches and for dessert we did chocolate cupcakes with orange frosting and candy corn on the outsides which was going to represent a sun. And lastly for our tea we decided to do a berry tea. On the day before the tea we frosted the cupcakes and decorated them with the candy corn which was me and connors job and Gage and Kayla were in charge of making the sandwiches. Then on the end of that day we were done and ready to eat.
On the day of the guest tea, all of our food was ready and all we had to do was set the table. Kayla and I got the napkins and tablecloth and rested that over the table. Then I grabbed the mugs, plates, saucer and centerpiece which was capable of holding all of the food in place. After that Connor got the food and rested it onto the centerpiece just in time to have our first guest arrive. We also had to dress up nicely, girls in dresses our solid color pants and the men had to wear pants as well as a button down shirt. Then you may eat.

Knife Skills Lab

For knife skills we practiced using the pinch grip and using a circular motion. You pinch the base of the knife and go back and forth as smooth as possible. We put our knife skills to the test when we did the stir fry lab which was yesterday. My group and I made carrot, broccoli, cabbage and garlic stir fry with a sauce made by Ms. Carlin. I chopped up the carrots at a 45 degree angle and protecting my finger tips by placing my hand on the vegetable in claw form. I also cooked the stir fry and served the meal.
The day before that we practiced our knife skills by attempting to make something close to edible arrangements which is basically decorated fruit in a bowl, preferably using bright fruits like strawberries, cantaloupe, etc. I cross hatched a kiwi and pulled it apart then cutting up a orange in tiny traingles to fit in the angles of the kiwi for extra color. Then I placed a grape in the center of the kiwi like a egg in a nest.

Scone Blog

On Thursday we made scones. The scones we decided to make were chocolate chip and orange zest scones. They were really good and they turned out just how Ms. Carlin demonstrated. I helped out by adding ingredients to the dry mix and stirring as well as  preheating the oven and monitoring the scones to make sure the scones cook until golden brown. Once we took them out they were nice and flakey and everything held together nicely.
Some things that I think we could have done better was maybe do the kneading a little bit more efficient by rolling out the dough more so that it would turn out better and more close to what was demonstrated on the Tuesday before we made the scones. I think my team did a very good job at making the scones and they tasted very good.

Muffing Blog

On wednesday we made muffins. We decided to make chocolate chip and strawberry strawberry muffins and flavored drinks. I was in charge of helping making the batter, chopping the strawberries and preheating the oven  as well as setting the table. One thing that I thing that I think we could have done better is not put as much strawberries into the muffins because It made them a little bit to damp and we also could have maybe let the muffins stay in for a minute or two longer.
Overall I think my team did very well, we followed the directions and added things that we did not need to add (the strawberries). I think they turned out to be really tasty and I would make them again if I had the option.

Omelets

During the omelet lab, I made a onion, sausage, bacon and cheese omelet with a side of salsa to go on top of it. To help make the omelets I was in charge of prep and chopping the food items such as the onions and some bacon into tiny bits. I really think I made a good omelet but what I think I could have done better is not leave the pan on so hot so that some corners of the omelet did not get as dark.
The recipe we used to make the omelets is four eggs (two for each person, their were four of us) and two tablespoons of egg to help air out the egg so it does not get as dense which is what you want in scrambled eggs and in this case we are making omelets. My clean up job was clearing the table and help drying the dishes after we finished eating.
In the end I think my group made very good omelets and we took our time to chop up all of our ingredients and make sure that the omelets were fully cooked and tasted good.

Foods Lab Blog Scaffolds

During the pancake lab, I was the waiter which is in charge of setting up the table. To help make pancakes, I helped by mixing the batter, and cooking the pancakes. I really liked this lab, because instead of just regular pancakes we made chocolate chip pancakes and we got to eat them. Next time I would make the batter not so thick so that the pancakes would turn out thinner and not as heavy.
The recipe we made was chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries, raspberries and whip cream. It reminded me of how my grandma makes pancakes for breakfast. I really like the pancakes because they have chocolate in them. If I could I would put in less flour so that the pancakes would be thinner or I would not put as much chocolate chips. In conclusion i think the pancakes that we made were very good and we had a lot of components to it and i would recommend it to anyone who wants to make pancakes.
